Prevent leftover paint from drying out;
Your newly painted fence rally ups your home’s curb appeal and you have some paint left over for a future project. Instead of storing the paint in its can (where it will dry out), try this: Pour leftover paint into a clean plastic laundry detergent jug and brush a color swatch on the jug so you can ID it. The airtight bottle keeps paint fresh, and when you’re ready to use, the spout makes pouring dripless.
Key to no-sweat mowing;
After a few summers of use, your lawn mower isn’t working as well as it used to. The likely culprit: built-up grass and dirt on the blades, which can keep them from functioning properly. To remedy, dampen a clean cloth with white vinegar and use it to wipe down the blades after each use. The vinegar will cut through the buildup so your mower does its job perfectly again.
Avoid car door dings;
“When my teenage son started driving, he’d sometimes park to close to the garage wall and end up dinging the car door when he opened it. That’s when we decided to nail old carpet scraps along the wall where the car door opens. The padding protects the door and the wall from dents and scratches.
Freshen your home for less;
A low-cost way to scent your home without risking chemical-triggered headaches. Before vacuuming, soak two cotton balls in essential oil and drop them into the empty vacuum bag or canister. The vacuum’s gentle heat will release the scent to lightly perfume the house. Add new cotton balls each time you vacuum.
